Response from Our Network
On March 31, 2020, TechSoup Europe organised a webinar “True or false? How to respond to disinformation?” It was our local event in Poland dedicated to teachers, educators and academic lecturers. The ability to recognize disinformation and deal with is especially important nowadays. In the difficult time of a pandemic, under stress and anxiety, all of us are at risk of unintentionally disseminating questionable content and being disinformed. Lack of ability to check information can have dramatic effects in both building social tensions and further social polarization. We chose educators as our target group, cause they are a group with a high level of social authority, who also spread unverified information, gossips or chain letters reinforcing bad online practices.
The numbers of registrations (905), participants (305) and a variety of partners who helped us spread the word about the webinar show how important is the topic of fact-checking and disinformation during the pandemic.
